Another of our own tried and true blends for all your Aroid & Hoya potting needs.
We blend fine Coco Coir and Coco Coir chips with Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss, Charcoal, Perlite, Tree fern fiber, and Zeolite to achieve a truly unique mix.
On the jungle floor and caught between branches of trees and between rocks on cliff faces and steep hillsides there is a deep pad of detritus that rains down from the trees above made up of twigs, bark, and moss. It is not soil until you dig down deep and most of the tropical plants we all grow would never meet "soil" in their natural habitat.
Rather than soaking it and then trying to figure out when it’s dry enough to water again, you keep this mix evenly moist but not sopping wet. As long as the mix is damp, your tropical Begonias and other moisture loving jungle plants will be very at home and happy.
**The exact ingredients and proportions and therefore the appearance can vary due to availability and because it is hand mixed, but not in a way that will affect performance.
This is the mix we use for not only Begonias but many others that like to stay wetter than the Aroid and Hoya mix. It is also a great tropical vivarium/ terrarium substrate.
