Hoya villosa (formerly known as Hoya globulosa)
This striking epiphytic species originates in humid montane forests stretching from Nepal and Sikkim through northeast India to Myanmar and Yunnan. This impressive Hoya species originates from the dense, tropical forests of the Himalayas, particularly from regions in India, Nepal and Bhutan. In its natural environment, it can be found as an epiphyte on trees, where it clings with its aerial roots and climbs up the trunks.
Celebrated for its unique aesthetic and resilience, the plant features velvety, pale green, leaves that can be over 6 inches long, covered in fine hairs and marked by bold dark veins. The leaves are strikingly dark green and covered with a velvety layer, which gives them a soft, almost furry appearance. The flowers are exceptional: densely pubescent, pale cream blooms with reddish-purple coronas, arranged in spherical umbels that produce a very pleasant scent similar to that of a Turk's-cap Lily. They can climb a moss pole or trail elegantly from a basket. Naturally slow to moderate in pace.
This variety may tolerate temperatures lower than most Hoyas due to it's higher altitude origins, making it more adaptable than many more lowland tropical species.
Care Requirements: Bright shade with very little, if any, direct sunlight. Our Classic or Shaggy Aroid & Hoya Mix provides the ideal well-draining substrate for this epiphytic species. Water regularly, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Loves high humidity—at least 60 percent is ideal. Optimal temperatures at 70-75°F (day), 61-64°F (night). Note: Contains latex-like sap that may cause mild skin or digestive irritation if ingested.
Perfect for intermediate collectors seeking a velvety, fragrant Hoya.
