Hoya verticillata (formerly known as Hoya parasitica Pink)
This versatile climbing species originates from the Indian Subcontinent to southern China and western and central Malaysia, growing as an epiphyte primarily in the wet tropical biome. Native to Southeast Asia, with sightings in India, southern China, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Bangladesh, and Singapore, found in various habitats but typically climbing on large trees in rainforests, coastal forests, and shorelines. In the wild, it can be found growing as an epiphyte in coastal forests, mangroves, thriving in humid, shaded environments.
This species features thick, waxy, ovate to oblong leaves that create an attractive backdrop for the stunning flowers. Distinguished by white to pink clusters of star-shaped blooms with darker pink or reddish centers that emit a very pleasant floral fragrance. Reflexed, creamy white flowers up to 0.6 inches across with burgundy-centered white corona, producing up to 30 flowers per umbel with beautiful spicy fragrance lasting up to 5 days. This fast-growing vining plant can be trained to climb or allowed to trail beautifully from hanging baskets.
One of the easier Hoyas to grow and bloom, making it suitable for beginners. All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested, so keep away from children and pets.
Care Requirements: Bright, diffused light with very little, if any, direct sunlight. Our Classic or Shaggy Aroid & Hoya Mix provides the ideal well-draining substrate. Keep evenly moist; temperatures ranging from 65-85°F. Ambient humidity between 50-70% is recommended and higher makes them grow even faster.
