Hoya latifolia Rangsan
Hoya latifolia Rangsan (formerly known just as sp Rangsan) was either bred in Thailand by a Mr. Rangsan or found in Rangsan, Indonesia depending on who you talk to.
Either way, it has beautifully speckled and mottled leaves with a similar shape but different texture to latifolia macrophylla, and for its multi-branching peduncles that support dense clusters of fragrant, creamy-pink flowers.
When mature, this plant can produce dozens of flowers simultaneously, making it one of the most floriferous Hoyas in cultivation. A vigorous climber, it thrives with bright light, consistent humidity, and support for its vining growth.
The Hoya latifolia 'Rangsan' is a stunning variegated cultivar that showcases bold splashes of creamy yellow against deep green foliage. This rare variety features the characteristically large, elongated leaves of Hoya latifolia—which can reach 6-8 inches in length—with dramatic marbling that makes each leaf a unique work of art. The variegation is stable and eye-catching, creating a tropical statement piece for any collection.
Like other Hoya latifolia varieties, 'Rangsan' produces clusters of fuzzy, star-shaped flowers with a delicate fragrance, though blooming typically occurs on mature plants. Native to Southeast Asian rainforests, this species appreciates bright indirect light to maintain its vibrant variegation, moderate humidity, and a well-draining potting mix. Allow the soil to dry partially between waterings, as the semi-succulent leaves store moisture efficiently.
While slightly more particular than common hoyas, 'Rangsan' rewards attentive care with vigorous growth and spectacular foliage. Its upright to semi-vining habit works beautifully in pots or allowed to cascade from shelves. A must-have for collectors seeking a dramatic, high-impact hoya that combines scientific intrigue with undeniable visual appeal.
