Hoya 'Gold Star'

This striking hybrid is a cross between an unidentified Eriostemma species and an unknown parent, created by Genevieve McDonald. It's parents are native to PNG and Malaysia, inheriting the tropical adaptations and epiphytic growing habits typical of Southeast Asian Hoyas.

Features bright green, fuzzy, very vigorous foliage. Produces large, waxy, golden yellow star-shaped flowers that are sweetly scented and can be over 1.5 inches across.

Grows as an aggressive vine that can get quite large, suitable for training to climb on a trellis or hang from a hanging basket. Should be given plenty of room to grow.

Requires a great deal of warmth, humidity and bright light to flower.

Care Requirements:

It wants very bright, slightly filtered light all day.

Our Classic or Shaggy Aroid & Hoya Mix provides the ideal well-draining substrate.

Water plenty and either keep evenly moist all the time, or it can have slight drying between waterings but we don't recommend letting it dry out completely.

They really don't want to go much lower than 55°F.

It has fuzzy, thin leaves and so needs consistently high humidity to be happy.

Prefers well drained gravelly soils, moist but not soggy. Our Classic or Shaggy Aroid mixes work really well to balance moisture retention and drainage and airiness.

Perfect for intermediate growers seeking a vigorous, fragrant Hoya hybrid with spectacular, large, golden blooms.
