Hoya burtoniae

This fast-growing climbing species is native to the Philippines, specifically from the island of Luzon. It grows as a climbing epiphyte or lithophyte in warm, humid environments.

The leaves are lance-shaped and have a unique glossy, thick, and velvety texture. The fuzzy dark green foliage measures 0.8-2.4 inches long and 0.6-1.2 inches wide, growing on long shoots. The newer leaves are entirely brown to reddish and gradually turn green as days pass. The deep green leaves have reddish edges that can become more vibrant with bright light. When mature and in bright light our Hoya burtoniae produces clusters of very small star-shape,d deep red flowers with yellow centers pretty much all your. It is very rarely not in bloom! Each bloom cluster flourishes for at least 1 week. The flowers smell exactly like movie theater popcorn, though some describe it as honey-scented or caramel.

This is a fast-growing plant that is easy to care for, making it a great choice for beginners.

Care Requirements: Bright, indirect light—can tolerate quite a bit of light but too much can cause leaves to burn. Our Classic or Shaggy Aroid & Hoya Mix provides the ideal well-draining substrate. Keep potting mix evenly moist. Grows best in temperatures between 60-85°F with high humidity, ideally 50% or higher. Perfect for anyone seeking a fast-growing, fragrant trailing or climbing Hoya.
