Hoya australis 'Lisa'
This stunning variegated cultivar descends from Hoya australis, native to northern and eastern Australia, Papuasia and Melanesia. Discovered on the northeast coast of Australia in the 1700s, in it's natural habitat of rocky, tropical landscape, this Hoya uses vines to climb up trees and has been recorded to grow as large as 10 feet long. It grows in rainforest margins and rocky areas, especially in coastal areas.
'Lisa' is celebrated for its spectacular variegated foliage featuring thick, waxy leaves in shades of dark green, lime green, creamy yellow, with newly formed leaves often coming in exquisite tones of red, peach, and burgundy. Each leaf displays unique patterns, creating a watercolor-like effect. This fast-growing vine can be trained to climb a support or allowed to cascade from hanging baskets.
When happy, it rewards with stunning umbels of white star-shaped flowers with a burgundy blush around the crown, often consisting of up to 30 single, shiny and intensely fragrant flowers. The fragrance is sweet and strong, especially at night, with hints of vanilla and chocolate.
One of the most beginner-friendly Hoyas available, 'Lisa' is forgiving and low-maintenance.
