Hoya serpens – A Rare Alpine Hoya with Tiny Charm

Hoya serpens is a miniature trailing species native to the eastern Himalayas, particularly found in Nepal, Sikkim (India), and Bhutan. It naturally grows as an epiphyte in cool, moist montane forests at elevations between 1,200 to 2,400 meters, often clinging to moss-covered trees in cloud forest environments.

This rare species is prized for its small, round, fuzzy green leaves and delicate, pale green to white flowers with a pinkish corona and sweet fragrance. Its compact habit and specific environmental preferences make it ideal for terrariums or high-humidity indoor setups.

 Key Features:

  • Tiny, rounded leaves with soft pubescence
  • Pale green blooms with pink centers; lightly fragrant
  • Trailing, compact growth ideal for baskets, mounts, or terrariums
  • Originates from high-altitude Himalayan cloud forests

Care Requirements:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light
  • Humidity: 70–90% preferred
  • Temperature: 55–75°F (13–24°C); avoids extreme heat
  • Watering: Keep substrate lightly moist; avoid full dry-out
  • Soil: Loose, well-draining epiphytic mix like our Aroid and Hoya mix

A must-have for Hoya enthusiasts seeking a unique species that thrives in cooler, humid environments—offering rare form and refined beauty.
