Philodendron hederaceum 'Brasil' (Variegated Heartleaf Philodendron)
This vibrant variegated cultivar is a selection of Philodendron hederaceum, native to Central America and the Caribbean. In its natural tropical rainforest habitat, it grows as a climbing or trailing plant, using aerial roots to attach itself to tree trunks and reach for dappled light through the dense canopy. The sprawling vining plant grows in rainforests covering the forest floor or climbing up trees.
'Brasil' is distinguished by its glossy, heart-shaped leaves that feature a beautiful mix of green and yellow variegation, with a lime or golden streak running through the center surrounded by a rich green border. The pattern is somewhat random, making each leaf unique. This versatile plant can be trained to climb a moss pole or allowed to cascade gracefully from hanging baskets.
One of the most beginner-friendly houseplants available, 'Brasil' is prized for its low-maintenance requirements and air-purifying qualities. Even in low-light conditions or shaded areas, it will grow prolifically, though brighter light enhances the variegation's intensity.
Care Requirements: Bright, indirect light—avoid direct sunlight which can scorch leaves. Well-draining, peat-based potting mix with slightly acidic to neutral pH. Temperature range between 60°F and 75°F, with medium to high humidity of at least 40%. Allow top 2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Note: Toxic to humans, cats, and dogs if ingested. Perfect for beginners and experienced plant enthusiasts alike.
