Hoya carnosa 'Krinkle 8'

This distinctive cultivar was created and patented in the 1960s by crossing Hoya carnosa  with Hoya carnosa 'Compacta'. The parent species Hoya carnosa is native to eastern Asia, including China and Japan, thriving as a rainforest epiphyte in warm, humid tropical environments.

The standard Carnosa plant has flat leaves and the Compacta has very curly and tightly folded leaves. The Krinkle is halfway between the two leaf shapes of its parents. The "8" in the name comes from the number of dimples or depressions that occur in the upper surfaces of the mature leaves. The thick, waxy leaves are marked by multiple deep depressions, creating a curled, rippled appearance. Mature plants produce flat, pale pink flowers with white corona and red center in umbels of up to 30 blooms with strong perfume scent. With its cascading vines, this cultivar thrives in hanging baskets or on shelves where it can spill downward.

The Hoya Krinkle seems to have sporadic growth—it can seem dormant for months at a time, then you'll notice a quick succession of new leaves.

Care Requirements: Prefers bright, indirect light.

Our Classic or Shaggy Aroid & Hoya Mix provides the ideal well-draining substrate.

Allow soil to dry slightly between waterings. Suitable for zones 10-12 when grown outdoors, prefers temperatures with good drainage. While fairly cold hardy compared to many Hoyas and able to survive brief periods in the high 30's or low 40's they definitely prefer temperatures above 50°F if possible.

Perfect for beginners seeking an easy to grow, cool leaved, trailing or climbing Hoya.
