Anthurium gracile (Red Pearls Anthurium)

This mid sized epiphytic species is found from Guatemala and Belize to the Guianas, southern Brazil and Peru, and is also known in the West Indies from Trinidad and Hispaniola. In Costa Rica and Panama, the species only grows in moist tropical forest. It is an epiphyte, where it attaches to trees using fleshy, white orchid like roots.

The plant features elongated, lance-shaped dark green leaves that create an elegant backdrop for the main attraction: clusters of brilliant red berries that hang beneath the foliage like shiny beads. The striking contrast between the deep green leaves and bright red berry clusters creates exceptional visual appeal. The white roots add even more contrast for an impressive display.

It would be great in larger terrariums since it stays a reasonable size, and also makes a beautiful specimen in hanging baskets where the trailing roots and berries can be fully appreciated. Unlike other Anthurium species' berries which can take close to a year to ripen, the berries on Anthurium gracile mature quickly, and it self-pollinates, so there is no need to aid the process.

Care Requirements: Bright, diffused light avoiding direct sunlight—ideally 75-80% shade. Day temperatures of 77-90°F and night temperatures of 70-75°F. Well-draining, chunky epiphytic mix. High humidity of 60% or higher.

Suitable for beginners and terrarium enthusiasts.
