Maxillaria tenuifolia is the famous coconut orchid. It is a species of epiphytic orchid ranging from Mexico to Nicaragua and possibly Costa Rica. It is easy to grow if kept moist and given good air movement in a high-light windowsill or greenhouse.
This orchid is relatively fast growing and can be quickly grown up into an impressive specimen plant. The rusty red flowers are about an inch and a half to two inches across and have a wonderful, sweet coconut fragrance.
